The experiment we conducted split water into the elements that make-up the formula H2O. We used electricity to seperate the molecules and collected one test tube of Hydrogen and one test tube with Oxygen. The gas above the negative side of the battery was the Hydrogen and above the positive was the Oxygen. We tested the tubes with a burning splint and found that the Hydrogen gave us a high pitched pop and the Oxygen reignited the glowing splint. Check out the following video to refresh your memory.
